Harsh Truth About Self-improvement

What do we understand when we hear self-improvement?
We sometimes love to look at self-improvement videos such as “how to change your life”, “how to deal with laziness”, “productivity hacks” etc.

It’s great if you dive into self-improvement in your life. Even so, there’s a harsh truth that really bothers me, and maybe you, about self-improvement.

Benefit of Self-improvement
We understand that self-improvement helps a lot of people. How they can change their lives and how they handle their lives in the future.

We learn how to improve ourselves and find a better way from experienced people. We learn how to deal with them maturely and wisely. We become better people every day and help other people with our own experiences.

We learn a lot and hear a lot about self-improvement. Self-improvement nowadays is pretty much the same. How to deal with procrastination with habits, dopamine, etc.

You know it but you didn’t do it
Even so, we still can’t change our own lives, and we still need those kinds of videos about self-improvement. We still watch the same video about productivity hacks. We still read the same article, which is pretty much the same as the one before.

Even if you have already achieved the goals that you really want, you probably still need self-improvement in your life to remind you about steps in the future.

Too much danger. Too much self-improvement can lead to confusion and perfectionism. We are afraid to take the first step and think too much about the future steps we will choose. We think too much about planning. We don’t realize that we already waste a lot of time planning and talking about it.

We think that self-improvement is important and forget that the most important thing, which is moving

Changing direction will be necessary, but for now, you just need to take the first step. Changing direction and planning can be done in the future. For now, the most important thing is to take the first step. Self-improvement helped us find the “right” steps, but it doesn’t help you take the first step.

Failure
Failure will always be waiting for you. Failure will always come at the right moment. Failure will always hit you when you feel weak. Failure will always be there, and you can’t avoid it. Failure is the essential step to facing bigger challenges. In the end, failure is the way.

Without failure, we can’t experience the valuable lesson needed to take the second step. Without failure, we can’t improve ourselves and find a better way to pursue our goals. Through failure, we become better. Through failure, we understand our own principles. Through failure, we become mature and wise.

Harsh Truth about Self-improvement
Self-improvement is inside all of those paragraphs that we talked about. Self-improvement helped us find the right plan and way to pursue it. Even so, self-improvement is pretty harsh for our lives, and this is the harsh truth about self-improvement:

“You will always need it.”

Gary Vee can talk the same thing about self-improvement, but we probably still failed to do it. Famous self-improvement authors can talk the same sh*t, and we probably still do the same stupid things that they told us to avoid.

We can write 100 articles that really “cover” all of the way to success but still fail and forget the main idea of article number 1. It’s because we are human beings.

Self-improvement as a guidance
We need guidance one step at a time. The way you feel when reading this article might be different when you get home from work. You might feel different when you think about your bills. You might feel different when you are already in your happy place. You might feel different when you are sad and don’t have any motivation to do anything.

Then self-improvement came as guidance to help us get through those sufferings. Get through those obstacles and challenges in the future. Self-improvement at the end will always be needed to remind us about the future steps we will take.

Living it
So, rather than thinking about when I will finish with self-improvement, think that you are living it.

It’s the way you live.

You read because your life basically consists of reading. You write because your life basically consists of writing. Your life consists of self-improvement because that’s the way you live.

The more you think that you live the way you do right now, the more you enjoy the process you have right now. That’s how we can move from “live” into “living”.

Conclusion
Self-improvement is pretty popular right now. A lot of people talk about self-improvement, hustlers, and productivity hacks. Even so, self-improvement actually has a harsh truth to it. Self-improvement will always be needed in the future. Without it, we might forget about the right steps we need to take.

It’s not wrong to go back and learn again, but it’s wrong to arrogantly underestimate learning.
